FAQ
What is the difference between 4.0, 4.3, and 4.5 scales?
The 4.0 scale is standard in the US. The 4.3 scale adds plus/minus grades (A+ = 4.3). The 4.5 scale, common in Korean universities, gives A+ = 4.5 and A = 4.0.
How do I convert between GPA scales?
Divide your GPA by the maximum of your current scale, then multiply by the maximum of the target scale. For example, 4.0/4.5 × 4.0 = 3.56 on a 4.0 scale.
Is a weighted or unweighted GPA better?
Weighted GPA accounts for credit hours, giving more weight to courses with more credits. Most universities use weighted GPA for a more accurate academic assessment.
What GPA is considered good?
On a 4.0 scale, 3.5+ is excellent (cum laude), 3.0-3.5 is good, and 2.0 is typically the minimum for graduation. On a 4.5 scale, 4.0+ is excellent.
How do Korean university GPAs work?
Most Korean universities use the 4.5 scale where A+ = 4.5, A = 4.0, B+ = 3.5, etc. Some use 4.3 (A+ = 4.3, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7).
